At Leander UMC, we partner with families to help children grow in their Christian faith and discover their place in God’s big story. We want every child to know how deeply they are loved by God and how important they are in the unfolding story of faith and love.
Children are always welcome in worship! We have a designated Grace Space just for them (scroll down for more information)! During our 11:00 service, we include a special Children’s Message, helping connect God’s story to their everyday lives.
Rooted in God’s love, we create a safe, welcoming, and joyful environment where children can explore their faith, build friendships, and grow alongside their families. Together, we’re nurturing seeds of faith that will flourish for a lifetime.
The Grace Space is a place for children to participate in worship in ways that are meaningful, creative, and age-appropriate. We are not simply seeking to keep children occupied during our worship services. Our goal is to help them feel like part of the worshiping community.
Each Sunday, children will be invited to engage with a creative response connected to worship. The space also includes items for prayer, movement, storytelling, reflection, and quiet engagement, such as prayer rocks, streamers, kind words to share, books, dolls and stuffies, fidgets, paper, markers, and diverse Bible story figures.
Children are welcome to remain in the Grace Space during worship as they practice the Grace Space covenant:
Use Quiet Voices, Share Materials Kindly, Care for the Space, Respect Worship, Welcome Everyone
A Grace Space host will be present to guide children and encourage their participation in the different parts of worship. Because the items in the space are intentionally chosen for worship, we ask children to leave personal toys and belongings with their family in the pew.
Children may also choose an item from the Grace Space and return to sit with their family. Older children are encouraged to help model for younger children how to participate in worship through the Grace Space.
Parents and caregivers are invited to talk with their children about how to use the Grace Space before worship begins. We also welcome your feedback as we learn together how this space can best serve our children, families, and wider congregation.
Our prayer is that the Grace Space will help children wonder, create, pray, listen, and discover the joy of worship as beloved members of the church family.
We value the safety of our children and youth and take seriously our responsibility to lead them well. We follow the safety policy and procedure guidelines as set by the Rio Texas Conference of the United Methodist Church. All volunteers must pass a thorough background check by an outside agency and complete a safety training and certification course. Click below to learn more about our policy.
